The good news is that the majority of people who contract COVID-19 only suffer mild, cold-like symptoms, but the bad news is, if serious, you may see severe acute respiratory syndrome.
How is the virus affecting people?
Those who contract COVID-19 are placed into 4 groups.
Group 1: These individuals have the virus but experience no symptoms.
Group 2: These individuals have an infection in the upper respiratory tract, fever, cough, and sometimes milder symptoms like headaches or conjunctivitis. Additionally, they are still able to transmit the virus but may not be aware of it.
Group 3: These individuals are the largest group of those who would be positive for COVID-19, and most likely to seek medical attention. They are feeling flu-like symptoms that would usually keep them off work.
Group 4: These individuals will develop severe illness that includes pneumonia and require hospitalization.
How does pneumonia develop?
When people with COVID-19 develop a cough and fever, this is a result of the infection reaching and entering the lower respiratory tract, where it can cause respiratory problems such as bronchitis and a severe form of pneumonia. This typically involves shortness of breath combined with a persistent cough. Additionally, if the air sacs then become inflamed, this causes an “outpouring of inflammatory material [fluid and inflammatory cells], making it hard for the oxygen you breathe in to get to your bloodstream and into the rest of the body. Lack of oxygen over a longer period of time could lead to organ failure and possibly death.
How can coronavirus patients feel better?
A breathing technique that is currently being used at the Queen’s Hospital in London may help people with the virus symptoms.
- Take a deep breath in.
- At the end of it, hold your breath for five seconds, then release.
- Do this five times — five breaths in total.
- Next, take a sixth deep breath in, then at the end of it cough actively — covering your mouth when you do so.
- The six breaths plus cough at the end represent once cycle. Repeat this cycle twice.
- Use our All New PowerMassager or Pro PowerMassager, combined with Zone 1 of RPR to reset your breathing (see Chart below)
The idea is to get the lower part of a person’s lungs to expand so that any mucus that’s collecting there can be dislodged and then coughed out. The initial deep breathing helps all the airways to open up, then the cough at the end of the sixth breath helps loosen the mucus that’s been affected by those deep breaths.
Lying down afterward is part of what doctors call postural drainage, or putting a person’s lungs in a position so that gravity can pull any loose secretions out of the organs.
An alternative clearance technique to drain and unclog the airways to open the lungs is chest physical therapy, or postural drainage and percussion. This is where you use gravity and percussion (clapping on the chest and/or back) to loosen the thickness, sticky mucus in the lungs so it can be removed by coughing.
Alternatively, substituting the TimTam PowerMassager to mimic manual CPT could be significant. Utilizing the TimTam with the PolishLight head with rhythmic strikes help mobilize bronchial secretions trapped in the lungs. This helps get better lung clearance providing firm percussion pressure applied to the chest wall or the outer structure of the lungs, causing the mucus to break away and move into larger airways to clear the pathway.

One of our amazing customers, who happens to be a nurse, used this technique, with the help of our Pro PowerMassager, to help break up mucus and get her husband's blood oxygen levels from 95%, back up to 99%.
Watch the video to see the technique and the amazing results her husband got from using the TimTam Pro PowerMassager to mimic CPT. Watch it here.
If you currently own a TimTam PowerMassager, and you are experiencing breathing restrictions due to an upper respiratory infection or mucus buildup, try this technique and let us know if it helped you.
